With proverbs, there are often two sides to the coin; I imagine that is where wisdom comes in–when to apply what proverb. For example, contrast:
“Absence makes the heart grow fonder” with “Out of sight, out of mind.”
“You’re never too old to learn” with “You can’t teach an old dog new tricks.”
Teaching and discussing contrasting proverbs with your students/children can be a good way to fascilitate higher level thinking.
